Bathroom fixtures normally serve one of two purposes: function and style. When you combine the two, you can have a stylish bathroom that you'll be proud to share with family and guests. Some fixtures are a must-have to do what you need to complete routine shower and grooming tasks. Others are nice to have, and can be installed gradually when you have the time and money for it.
Options For Bathroom Appliances / Fixtures :
1 - Towel Bars
Having bathroom towel bars is necessary in every bathroom. However, they don't have to be plain. There are many styles and shapes to choose from. For example, consider installing curved or circular bars instead of the standard straight bars. You can buy towel bar sets that have different lengths to hang hand towels and body towels. Also experiment with the towel bar materials. Instead of plastic and wood, try brass or satin nickel towel bars.
2 - Wall Mount Mirror
You can't have too many mirrors in a bathroom. There's the traditional bathroom sink mirror, as well as one that comes with a medicine cabinet. You can also add a wall mount magnification mirror. Jerdon First Class makes a 8 inch model that magnifies up to 5 times, and another one up to 7 times. These are handy for shaving or examining those hard-to-see areas on your body.
3 - Robe Hook
This is a small bathroom fixture, but it's a convenient accessory. This prevents you from having to throw your robes on the toilet, towel bar or on the floor. It also gives the bathroom an elegant look. You can install a single or double robe hook, depending on how many people use the bathroom. These weigh around 10 pounds and come in a variety styles, such as bronze or pearl nickel.
4 - Bathroom Faucets
These are a must-have and can help to define the look and style of the bathroom. You're used to the traditional metallic faucets with plastic or glass knobs. Think beyond those and replace or install news ones with different materials to give your bathroom a fresh look.
5 - Bathroom Lighting Fixtures
Lighting in a bathroom is key for functionality and style. There are many options to choose from, but it's important to think about what you want to accomplish with your lighting. If you want bright lights so that you can see well while using the bathroom mirror, then you should consider 3 or 5 light systems that you can install above your bathroom sink mirror.
6 - Different tap styles and types
Taps are made using a wide range of materials, including stainless steel, chrome, brass, nickel and gold. The choice here is mostly aesthetic - the material your taps are made of has very little effect on their efficiency and performance. Don’t be scared to consider metals other than chrome; brass taps and spouts, for example, are not terribly common and can make a surprising difference to the look and feel of your bathroom or kitchen. They can vary in texture too; a glossy look provides gleam and sparkle, while brushed or matte finishes will give a more modern feel. Some taps even feature LED lighting along the spout which changes colour depending on the temperature of the water!
7 - types of shower heads
On a basic level, shower heads can be broken down into two types – fixed and hand-held. Fixed shower heads are affixed to a point on a wall (or sometimes a ceiling) above head height. From here most fixed shower heads can be moved and directed within a limited area to compensate for people of different heights, but they're mostly restricted in how they're used.
Hand-held shower heads are attached via a hose, and can either be mounted on a holder or held in the hand for much greater control over where water is directed. Hand held shower mounts are often adjustable too, mounted on a vertical rail allowing for big adjustments in height. Their flexibility makes hand held showers particularly useful for those with small children or those with disabilities.
Beyond the basic differences between hand-held shower heads and fixed shower heads, there are many variations including massage showers, rain shower heads, waterfall showers, multi-head showers and high and low pressure jets in singles or multiples.
8 - Types of wastes and drains
There are two basic waste types: pop up wastes and grid wastes. Pop up drains are opened and closed either by means of a lever which can be located in a convenient spot, usually behind or near the spout.Basic grid drains are suitable for use just about anywhere that a drain is required. In shower stalls and on floors they're usually flush with the floor surface, but in the case of vanities, kitchen sinks and bathtubs, they need to be recessed to allow a plug to be inserted so that water can be retained.
9 - Types of bathroom heaters
Radiant bar heater
Radiant bar heaters (or strip heaters) produce a lot of heat very quickly, and are ideal for areas like bathrooms, where heat is required for short amounts of time.
Hydronic heating
Hydronic heating uses heated water pumped through a network of pipes to radiators. It also works as under-floor heating.
Heat lamps
Heat lamps can be a good source of warmth for your bathroom, particularly in colder weather.
Electric underfloor heating
Electric underfloor heating can keep your toes warm on cold mornings and keep the temperature in your house at a constant, comfortable level.
10 - Exhaust fans
In your home there are particular rooms that are prone to problems created by localised humidity, namely the kitchen, bathroom, laundry and sauna (if you have one). The steam created by cooking, hot water and clothes dryers can have a dramatic effect on the climate within your home. Left to build up, this moisture can start to affect the walls and ceiling by creating problems of mildew and mould. An exhaust fan is a simple solution to this problem.
